He was supposedly the Next Big Thing. It's like he's just dissapeared up his own backside.. burnout?

Last thing I heard is that he wanted to concentrate on his 'acting' career. So he's starring in Little Nicky, the upcoming Adam Sandler vehicle, as a blind preacher.
His World War 2 script that everyone was talking about actually looks like its happening, with Michael Madsen starring. It's suppposed to be something similar to the Dirty Dozen.
Then there was the rumour that he was directing an Elmore Leonard adaption called Forty Lashes, but I haven't heard much about that.
And then there is his annual film festival thing that he does. I read that he has a whole night dedicated to 'pimp' films. Hmmm....
Anyway, I don't think Tarantino will fade away, and he was definitely the next big thing, but now he needs to make a really good film to prove to everyone it wasn't all hype.
If I'm wrong on any of this stuff please tell me, I'd love to know what he's doing myself.

I'm looking forward to the Dirty Dozen style film.
I didn't know Madsen was in it. He's good.

He already is a "big thing". Wasn't Jackie Brown a fantastic film?

personaly no, i didn't like Jackie Brown or Resovoir Dogs, the only one i liked was pulp fiction. Although from dusk till dawn and true romance were good. I didn't care much for Natural born killers

I'm there, Cash. Pulp Fiction was by far the best. Jackie Brown was mildly entertaining but nothing special. I truly hated Resovoir Dogs. Everytime I state my opinion on that movie, I am hit from all sides by the hoardes of people who loved it. They say it is a deep movie. They say it is a social commentary. They say the acting is superb.
I say bull.
It was just a lame excuse to get together a bunch of trash talking hipsters to go around posing as gangters shooting each other up.
I realize and have no qualms with gore and violence if it is used in the appropriate context, but Resovoir Dogs HAD no context EXCEPT blood, bullets and swearing.
It seemed to me the ultimate film aimed at making adolecent boys shit their pants because the characters seem so "cool" with their fast moves and slick suits. The obvious reason for this is that Tarantino himself, especially then, was essentially, if not in body in mind, an adolecent boy himself.

Well as far as i know Tarantino's doing a world war two one and so's John Woo. Woo's flick is called windtalkers staring nic cage. It's about the navaho indian codemakers during the war and how they had guards who were ordered to kill them if they looked like being captured by the enemy. Which would subsequently put them in a position to reveal the navaho code to the enemy. looks like Woo's back in familiar territory, let's hope he makes a good movie this time. I for one don't want to see another M:I2.
As for all these Reservoir Dogs bashers wake up. Personally i think Dogs was his best movie, only just piping pulp fiction at the post. Jackie Brown was far to pretentious for my likeing, but still an okay film, no where near the calibre of his previous efforts though. Dogs was just the quintisential indie film, the relationships that are forged in so little time are brilliant and the dialogue is very cool indeed. I'd say it's Quentin's most emotional film, you really do feel for both white and orange in that closing scene. whereas the others rely far too much on style and set pieces. Not that that's such a bad thing

The problem tarantino is goign through is that it is going to be very hard for him to top pulp fiction. he himself said that it would be hard. that movie was his lifess work until it got made. Jackie brown was OK and it does have its moments but no movie he does after pulp will ever live up to pulp fiction. in the eyes of the public anyting that is not as good as pulp fiction will be a failure. thats a tough at to follow. I would hate to be in that position
